Referrals - Women
We work with women and dependent children who have no recourse to public funds. These are people who have been either trafficked, abandoned by their partners, escaped modern slavery and/or fled domestic violence.
Alongside partner organisations, we support women to deal with past traumas and regularise their status in this country. We achieve this by providing accommodation and one-to-one support in liaison with Social Services with the following:
-
Resolving immigration issues (although we do not provide legal advice ourselves, we work closely with immigration law firms, referring clients to solicitors etc)
-
Gaining life skills
-
Accessing health services and other support groups
-
Volunteering opportunities to increase employability skills and self-confidence.
-
Accessing counselling services, parenting support, literacy & numeracy skills.
We support women to work through their circumstances and move on from their traumatic experiences of the past to a better, brighter future.
Our Criteria
Our criteria for accepting clients to the women’s project
-
Women with children/pregnant and homeless.
-
No Recourse to Public Funds (must be referred by supporting agency).
-
Has application or appeal with Home Office or willing to make one.
-
Willingness to comply with the project’s aims, ethos and Conditions of Residence
We do not accept self-referrals for our women’s accommodation. Most of our referrals come through the Children’s Social Services departments of various London boroughs.
Families with children over the age of 16 are unlikely to be accommodated because of the vulnerable nature of women within the house.
Families with male children over ten years old are also unable to be accommodated.
Please read our Conditions of Residence for further details.
Accommodation Provision
We provide fully furnished individual rooms within a house with shared-use facilities such as a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and lounge. Our houses are based in Newham. They are maintained to a very high standard, and each one also comes with a garden.
There are also free laundry facilities available and some basic cleaning products are provided to all residents. Some of our properties have a separate pram-parking area. There is free Wi-Fi available in all the homes.
Support
We provide one-to-one and group support. We also work with partner organisations to ensure that more specialist support is provided, including immigration advice, parenting skills, counselling, health care services and improving life skills.
Residents are expected to take part in a small amount of voluntary work tasks where possible with our partner social enterprise.
