Our History

The vision and history  of First Fruit Group of Charities, in the words of our Founders – Peter and Hannah Watherston.

First Fruit Charity is the mother charity of Just Homes Charity.

Our Patrons Jane and Jonthan Ruffer

Jonathan Ruffer, our founding trustee, played a pivotal role in establishing First Fruit Charity, the parent organization of Just Homes. The charity was made possible thanks to the seed funding provided by Jonathan and his wife, Jane.

Since its inception, Jonathan has continued to support the charity through his philanthropic foundation, the Lempriere Pringle 2015 Trust, which funds the ongoing Support costs of the charity. Although Jonathan stepped down from our board in 2010, both he and Jane remain integral to the foundation on which the charity is built.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the trustees of the Lempriere Pringle 2015 Trust for their on-going support. The trust's mission focuses on revitalizing the economy of Bishop Auckland, Jonathan Ruffer's hometown, and making a lasting impact on the local community.

Just homes is a non-denominational, inclusive christian charity seeking to serve and respect people of all faiths and none.

"Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?"
